SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall head coach Allison Yaeger officially announced on Monday the full list of six newcomers that will suit up for the Pirates this fall.Â
Â
Playing for Seton Hall for the first time this fall will be Cagla Bengi (Bursa, Turkey), Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas), Tsvetelina Ilieva (Sofia, Bulgaria), Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.), Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) and Mary Okereke (Williamstown, N.J.).
Â
A talented setter from Bursa, Turkey, Cagla Bengi was the team captain for her U16 team and helped lead her U17 team to a sixth-place finish in the Turkey Clubs Championship in 2018. A versatile player, she's also capable of showing a strong offensive prowess having served as an opposite hitter for two years before moving to setter in Turkey.
Â
A transfer from Tyler Junior College in Texas, Madison Frusha has two years of eligibility remaining for the Pirates. A 6-foot middle blocker, she played in all 32 matches for Tyler last year and ranked second on the team with 76 blocks and fourth on the team with 183 kills. Prior to her arrival at Tyler, Frusha was a force at Huntsville High School in Texas, collecting All-District honors.
Â
The Hall went back overseas to collect a major offensive power in Tsvetelina Ilieva. Hailing from Sofia, Bulgaria, she attended 138 SUSIE Professor Vasil Zlatarski and served as the team captain and major offensive attacker at outside hitter.
Â
A four-year setter for Huntley High School in Illinois, Taylor Jakubowski was a volleyball force. A four-time All-Conference and All-Area selection, she helped lead Huntley to four straight regional championships and a pair of conference titles. Jakubowski finished her career with nearly 300 kills, 1,200 digs and over 3,500 assists, which ranks second all-time in the State of Illinois.
Â
An offensive powerhouse for Whitney M. Young High School in Chicago, Perri Lucas helped lead her team to a 72-28 record in her three years playing volleyball. A 5-foot-10 outside hitter, she is an All-Conference performer and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Chicago Public Schools Championship Game in 2019.Â
Â
Mary Okereke is a gifted 6-0 middle blocker who led Williamstown High School to a 92-27 record and four Gloucester County titles during her four-year high school career. A First Team All-Conference selection, she led her team in both kills and blocks as a junior before injury sidelined her senior campaign.
