
Kretlow, Pirates Win Big at NJIT

Newark, N.J. – Cole Kretlow (Oakland, Calif.) took home a first-place individual finish as he helped guide the Seton Hall men's cross country team to its second win of the season on Saturday. The Pirates placed first at the 2021 Highlander XC Challenge hosted by NJIT at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J.
Kretlow was able to pace the field of 237 runners on the 8k course, doing so in a time of 25:17.82. For Kretlow, it was his second individual win of the season with the first coming in the Bill Fritz Invitational on Sept. 11.
Following Kretlow in the top-5 was Patrick Wagner (Jenkintown, PA.) with a third-place finish and Declan Harkness (Stewartsville, N.J.) with a showing in fourth. Wagner crossed the finish line in a time of 25:26.17 while Harkness came in just behind his teammate with a time of 25:31. 83. Rounding out the Pirate finishers in the top-10 was Brandin Affrunti (Staten Island, N.Y.) completing the course in a time of 25:56.87 for a tenth-place finish.
Both Nicholas Minikel (Milltown, N.J.) and Daniel Washburn (Syracuse, N.Y.) were able to nab top-25 finishes with a 20th and 24th spot, respectively. Minikel finished in 26:45.16 while Washburn wrapped up in a time of 26:52.73. Also competing for The Hall was Justin Allone (Holtsville, N.Y.), Andrew Walde (Edmonds, WA.), Jacob Wozar (Newark, Del.) and Peter Smutelovic.
The Pirates will look to build on their success next Friday when they run in the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
