The 5-foot-10 guard was named 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year in Connecticut.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall women's basketball head coach Anthony Bozzella announced today that Shailyn Pinkney (East Hartford, Conn.) has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University and begin playing basketball for the program next fall.Â
Â
"We are really excited to have such an outstanding young lady, both on and off the court, commit to Seton Hall University," Bozzella said. "Coming off a junior year where she was named Gatorade Player of the Year for Connecticut, Shailyn has all the qualities we want in a Seton Hall student-athlete. Shailyn can score the ball both inside and outside, has extremely good court vision and has all the tools to develop into an outstanding player in our system here at Seton Hall."
Â
Named Gatorade Player of the Year for the State of Connecticut as a junior, Pinkney averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals per game while leading East Hartford to a 10-3 record during a pandemic-shortened season. The focal point of her team for the last three years, she has already amassed over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 225 assists and 150 steals in her career. A three-time First Team All-CCC and three-time Class LL First Team All-State selection, Pinkney was named the Hearst Connecticut Media Group's GameTimeCT Girls Basketball MVP in 2021.
Â
Equally talented in the classroom, Pinkney is a three-time All-Academic Team selection and has maintained an impressive 3.51 grade point average.
