LAST WEEK
Seton Hall split a pair of hard-fought four-set matches last week on the road. The Pirates fell in four sets on Friday at Villanova, but bounced back with a convincing four-set victory at Georgetown on Saturday.Â
Â
Three Pirates had a team-best nine kills, but the Pirates fell at Villanova in four sets, 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25), on Friday. Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas), Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) and Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) all had nine kills, combining for 27 kills and only six attack errors. Frusha was the most efficient of the group, collecting nine kills, only one attack error and a team-best .533 attack percentage.
Â
Tsvetelina Ilieva (Sofia, Bulgaria), Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) and Walsh combined for 32 kills and the Pirates defeated Georgetown, 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22), on Saturday. Ilieva had 11 kills to go with seven digs, two service aces and a season-high five blocks. Walsh tallied 11 kills, only three attack errors, three digs and two blocks. Turner had 10 kills and two blocks.
Â
Seton Hall enters this weekend with a 12-14 record overall and a 4-8 mark in BIG EAST Conference play.
Â
SCOUTING MARQUETTE
The Pirates are looking for a season-series split when Seton Hall and Marquette match up on Friday. On Oct. 16, Emilee Turner and sophomore Tsvetelina Ilieva combined for 18 kills and only three attack errors, but The Hall fell in four sets at Marquette, 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 12-25, 19-25). Turner finished with nine kills, only one attack error, and a .364 attack percentage, while Ilieva had nine kills, two attack errors, and three digs. Perri Lucas missed the team lead by only one kill, finishing with eight.
Â
Marquette enters the weekend with a 19-4 overall record and an impressive 10-2 mark in BIG EAST play. They're currently tied with Creighton for first place in the BIG EAST and vying for a regular season title.Â
Â
Marquette has won five of their last six matches, but is coming off a split of a pair of matches last weekend. The Golden Eagles lost in four sets at home to Creighton on Friday, but bounced back to sweep Providence on Saturday. Marquette's only BIG EAST losses this year have come in four sets to Creighton. Its only two other losses came during the non-conference schedule to volleyball powerhouses Kentucky and Wisconsin.
Â
SCOUTING DE PAUL
Seton Hall will look to bounce back from a three-set sweep at the hands of DePaul back on Oct. 15. Emilee Turner had a team-high 10 kills, but the Pirates fell in three sets at DePaul, 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 16-25). Turner had a team-best 10 kills, only two attack errors, a team-best .333 attack percentage and four blocks. Junior Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio) recorded a season-high 23 digs.
Â
DePaul enters the weekend with a 13-11 overall record and a 6-6 mark in BIG EAST play. They're currently tied with Villanova for fifth place in the BIG EAST and are alive for a BIG EAST Tournament berth. The Blue Demons are only a single match behind Butler for the vaunted fourth spot.Â
Â
Most recently, DePaul, like Marquette, split a pair of home BIG EAST matches last weekend. The Blue Demons defeated Providence in four sets on Friday, but were swept by Creighton on Saturday. DePaul has lost three of their last four matches.
Â
UP NEXT
Next weekend, the Pirates will host Connecticut for Senior Night in Walsh Gym on Saturday, Nov. 13. The next day, they'll make the short trip to Queens for a contest at St. John's on Sunday, Nov. 14.
