SET 1:
Despite trailing for much of the opening set, Seton Hall played Marquette closely cutting their deficit to just two points on four different occasions. Down 18-14, back-to-back kills by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) and Madeline Matheny (Wilmington, Del.) cut The Hall's deficit to 18-16. Marquette, however, responded with the next three points to open a five-point lead and went on to a 25-21 victory.
Â
SET 2:
The second set was dramatically different with the Pirates recording a team-high .378 attack percentage, which included 17 kills and only three attack errors. Trailing 7-3, The Hall went on an 11-2 run, and a kill by Ilieva gave it a 14-9 advantage. Later in the set a kill by Turner gave Seton Hall a 23-17 lead, but Marquette stormed back with five straight points to cut its deficit to one and force a Pirate timeout. Out of the break, however, a kill by Ilieva put The Hall in set point, and two points later, another by Lucas won it for The Hall, 25-23.
Â
SET 3:
Seton Hall played it closely with Marquette again in set three until the Golden Eagles pulled away late. A Marquette attack error cut the Pirates' deficit to 10-9, but the Golden Eagles responded with four of the next five points to grab some breathing distance, 14-10. The Hall got to within three, 16-13, but the Golden Eagles took off again with a 5-1 burst to grab a commanding 21-14 advantage. They went on to a 25-18 win enjoying a match-high .412 attack percentage for the third set.
Â
SET 4:
The fourth set was the closest of the match, featuring six ties. With the score knotted at nine, Marquette scored six of the next eight points to grab a 15-11 lead. The Pirates, however, didn't fold, and a block by Turner and Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) cut their deficit to 18-17. Down 22-19, the Pirates mounted another late charge. A kill by Ilieva and blocks by Ilieva and Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas) again cut the Marquette lead to one, 22-21. The Hall didn't get closer though, and the Golden Eagles held on for a 25-22 victory.
