NEW YORK – Seton Hall senior Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) was named BIG EAST Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Â
The award period included all last week and yesterday to complete the regular season. It's her first Player of the Week honor this year after being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times.
Â
Elmore was a dominant force for Seton Hall in three road victories last week. The senior forward led the Pirates with 19.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. On Wednesday at Xavier, Elmore had a strong all-around game, going for eight points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. At Villanova on Saturday, she erupted for a double-double with game-highs of 21 points and 16 rebounds.Â
Â
Finally, on Monday, Elmore scored a career-high 30 points, on an efficient 11-for-16 shooting, to go with nine rebounds and three blocks. During the impressive effort, she became the 23rd player in program history to record 1,000 career points in a Pirate uniform.Â
Â
Connecticut's Aaliyah Edwards was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Members of the Weekly Honor Roll include Butler's Upe Atosu, DePaul's Lexi Held, Marquette's Camryn Taylor, Villanova's Maddy Siegrist and Xavier's A'riana Gray.
Â
Seton Hall will return to game action on Saturday, March 6 when it begins play at the 2021 BIG EAST Tournament. The Pirates will face either No. 6 Creighton or No. 11 Georgetown in the quarterfinals after receiving a first-round bye. Tip time is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET.
