LAST YEAR AGAINST PROVIDENCE
Seton Hall swept the 2020-21 season series against Providence, winning, 67-55, in Walsh Gym and 77-71, in Alumni Hall.
Â
Desiree Elmore had a double-double and recorded her 1,000th career point as the Pirates upended Providence, 67-55, in Walsh Gym on Feb. 20. Seton Hall trailed for only 3:48 during the game, taking control with a 12-2 run that began late in the first quarter. The Pirate lead got as large as 23 points in the third quarter, and despite a lengthy Providence run in the fourth, their advantage was never cut to single digits.
Â
Behind 20 points from both sophomores Mya Jackson and Lauren Park-Lane, the Pirates rallied from a 12-point deficit to defeat the Friars, 77-71, on Jan. 3. The Pirates trailed by as many as nine points in the third quarter until a dramatic 14-0 run gave them the lead for good and changed their fates.
Â
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars are coming off a 7-14 abbreviated 2020-21 season. They defeated Butler in the opening round of the BIG EAST Tournament before their season came to an end in a quarterfinal loss to Marquette.
Â
This year, Providence is predicted to finish eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference, according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Friars welcome eight new faces to the program this season, including two transfers and six freshmen. Andreana Wrister is a graduate transfer from Tennessee State, while Janai Crooms played three seasons in the Big Ten at Ohio State and Michigan State.
Â
Providence is off to a 8-7 start during the 2021-22 campaign, including a 3-3 beginning to their BIG EAST slate. They're coming off a 56-49 victory over St. John's on Friday.
Â
