
The Hall Drops Contest at No. 19 Marquette

MILWAUKEE, WIS. – Junior Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) had team-highs of eight kills and seven digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at No. 19 Marquette, 3-0 (14-25, 11-25, 11-25), on Friday.

The Hall has now dropped four straight matches after starting the BIG EAST portion of their slate 4-1. The Hall has played the last three matches on the road and will face another tough road test on Saturday at DePaul.

In addition to Bucciarelli's exploits, The Hall received a solid match from junior Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hill, Ill.). She finished with a team-best 13 assists to go with six kills.

SET 1:
The match started with a kill by Walsh, but Marquette then went on an 8-1 run to assume control early in set one. A kill by Bucciarelli cut The Hall's deficit to 16-8, but the Golden Eagles responded with the next six points to grab a commanding 21-8 advantage. Marquette went on to a 25-14 set-one victory. Marquette limited The Hall to just .061 attack percentage in the opening stanza.Â

The Hall opened the second set with the first three points, but Marquette bounced back with a 9-2 run and forced a Pirates timeout. A Bucciarelli kill closed The Hall's gap to 12-8, but the Golden Eagles followed with a 10-1 run to take an insurmountable 22-19 lead. Marquette won set two, 25-11. The Golden Eagles had a .455 attack percentage in set two, compared to -.067 for The Hall.

Marquette never trailed in the third set. With the score tied at three, the Golden Eagles scored four straight points to take a 7-4 lead. A kill by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) cut The Hall's deficit to 11-9, but Marquette responded with four straight points to take a 15-9 advantage and force a Pirates' timeout. Another Lucas kill brought the Hall to within five at 16-11, but the Golden Eagles closed the match with a 9-0 run.
