Washington, D.C. — Junior Tray Jackson (Detroit, Mich.) matched his career-high with 21 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range to go along with seven rebounds to lead the Seton Hall men's basketball team to a 70-63 BIG EAST road victory over Georgetown on Tuesday evening at Capital One Arena.
Â
Senior Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.) chipped in with 14 points and six rebounds and Sophomore Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Â
How It Happened
The two teams went back and forth early in the first half before the Pirates (13-7, 4-6 BIG EAST) used a 12-4 run, capped off with a three-point basket by Jackson, that stretched their lead to six, 24-18, with 6:52 left.
Â
Four consecutive free throws by Rhoden gave The Hall a 35-25 lead with eight seconds to play before halftime but the Hoyas' Kaiden Rice made a shot from downtown that made it a seven-point game, 35-28, and gave Georgetown some life heading into the locker room.
Â
Both sides started the second half off cold as they nearly going two and a half minutes without a basket before a follow-up slam by Jackson pushed Seton Hall's lead to 37-28.
Â
Later in the second, the Hoyas used a 10-0 run to give themselves their first lead since the 12:01 mark in the first half as the Pirates fell behind by five, 49-44, with 8:59 to go. A much-needed three-pointer by graduate student Jamir Harris (North Brunswick, N.J.) stopped the bleeding and made it a two-point game, 49-47
Â
With the Pirates still trailing by four with 7:10 left, Jackson answered the call with back-to-back three-point baskets that put Seton Hall back in front, 55-53, and forced Georgetown to call a timeout. Seton Hall wouldn't trail again for the rest of the contest as a layup by Rhoden with 1:01 left, a block by graduate student Ike Obiagu (Abuja, Nigeria) on the other end and a rebound and two made free throws for Jackson put the victory on ice.
