NEW YORK – Seton Hall women's basketball junior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) has been named the 2022 All-Met Division I Player of the Year, the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association announced on Friday.
Â
Park-Lane becomes only the third player in Seton Hall women's basketball history to earn the impressive distinction, joining Pirate legends Ka-Deidre Simmons (2015) and Dana Wynne (1997).
Â
Despite her diminutive size, Park-Lane again showed why she's one of the best point guards in the nation. A unanimous selection to the 2021-22 All-BIG EAST First Team, she was named to the Nancy Lieberman National Point Guard of the Year Watch List and the Cancun Challenge All-Tournament Team.Â
Â
An accomplished offensive threat averaging over 18 points per contest, she took her playmaking game to a new level in 2021-22. Park-lane won the BIG EAST assist title, averaging a conference-best 7.5 per game during the regular season, which ranked second in the country. Her 152 assists in BIG EAST play set a new conference single-season record, and her 18 assists against Butler on Feb. 22 tied the conference mark and set a new Seton Hall single-game record.Â
Â
Park-Lane led the Pirates to a pair of victories in the BIG EAST Tournament before falling to Villanova in the semifinals. The point guard was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 19.7 points per game.
Â
In a historic effort, Park-Lane averaged 22.2 points, 6.5 assists, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game in six WNIT contests and helped carry Seton Hall all the way to the WNIT Championship Game. Named to the WNIT All-Tournament Team, she set a Seton Hall postseason record with 11 assists against Drexel and scored 29 points in a game, three times, the second-highest mark in Pirate postseason history.
Â
When the dust settled on a memorable season, Park-Lane finished with a new Seton Hall single-season record of 260 assists, which led the nation. Her 678 points set a program single-season record too, all in 1,420 minutes played, which also was the top mark in the country.
Â
Park-Lane will be honored at the 89th All-Met Haggerty Awards Dinner scheduled for Monday, April 25, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY. The Haggerty dinner is the longest running, media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.
