Allesch returns to Seton Hall for her final season after starring at Appalachian State.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall women's basketball head coach Anthony Bozzella announced today that former Pirate Alexia Allesch (Basking Ridge, N.J.) is returning to the Pirates for her final year of eligibility in 2022-23.Â
Â
Allesch was a key contributor for The Hall in 2019-20 and 2020-21 before transferring to Appalachian State last season where she had a breakout campaign for the Mountaineers. Allesch returns home for her final collegiate season.
Â
"I'm really excited to have Alexia back," Bozzella said. "She had a great year at Appalachian State, but had an opportunity to come back to a system she knows well and enroll in an excellent MBA program. Alexia is a winner. We had success with her the first time around, and we're really to have her and her family back with us again."
Â
Allesch blossomed in a starring role for Appalachian State last season and was one of only four players in the Sun Belt Conference to average a double-double. Named the Sun Belt's 2021-22 Newcomer of the Year, she became the first Mountaineer to garner an individual postseason honor since App State joined the Sun Belt in 2014.  Also named to the All-Conference Second team, Allesch averaged 15.7 points and 10.5 rebounds in conference games and ranked top eight in league play in scoring (eighth), rebounding (third), 3-pointers per game (second) and blocked shots (fourth).  Her 10 double-doubles for the season are tied for second-most among Sun Belt players.
Â
At Seton Hall, Allesch played in 40 games over two years, and started in all 18 of the Pirates' pandemic-shortened season of 2020-21. She averaged 4.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest. Showing her defensive prowess, Allesch was second on the team in blocks and third in steals.
