Pirates Tally Twice Late, Earn 2-2 Draw at No. 24 Xavier

Cincinnati, Ohio – The Pirates found a late spark in Saturday night's BIG EAST opener, scoring twice in a six-minute span to draw with No. 24 Xavier, 2-2. Andrea Borg (Sliema, Malta) and Johannes Pex (Stephansposching, Germany) both found the back of the net late.

How it Happened
After the two sides jockeyed for momentum early, Xavier found the back of the net first in the 38th minute to grab a 1-0 lead. The Musketeers would hold on to that lead heading into the break.

Seton Hall had the majority of the chances in the second half, outshooting Xavier 9-2 in the final 45 minutes. However, in the 79th minute the Musketeers would score off a header in the box to take a 2-0 lead.

The Pirates were undeterred and were able to find some late production. In the 84th minute, a great individual effort from Borg allowed him to find space at the edge of the six-yard box. The senior blasted one past Xavier goalkeeper Cole Jensen to cut the deficit in half.

In the 90th minute, it was once again Borg who would generate a Pirate threat. Borg was taken down just inside the penalty area, giving Seton Hall a penalty kick with a chance to tie things up. Pex calmly stepped up and buried his third goal of the year into the bottom left corner.

Inside the Numbers

Seton Hall outshot Xavier 14-6, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Pex has now scored four penalty kick goals in his career.
Quenzi Huerman (Vannes, France) had a game-high five shots, while Ian Albuquerque added three.

News & Notes

This marks the first time the Pirates have overcome a two-goal deficit to win or tie since coming back from a 3-1 deficit to draw No. 10 Virginia Tech on Sep. 6, 2021.
This also marks the first time the Pirates score two goals in the 80th minute or later since doing so against Princeton on Sep. 7, 2017.
The Pirates have scored a goal in each of their first seven matches of a season for the first time since 2005.
The draw snaps the Pirates' four-match losing streak to Xavier.
