
Pirates Battle Hard in Narrow Loss to Georgetown on Senior Day

South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's swimming and diving team narrowly fell at home on Saturday to Georgetown by a final score of 158.5-141.5.
Prior to the meet, the Pirates honored six departing seniors: Maddie Bachand (Raleigh, N.C.), Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.), Cornelia Jerresand (Taeby, Sweden), Savannah Kennedy (Fishers, Ind.), Taylor Patnode (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Sarah Pilecki (Cary, N.C.).
Lea Moeller (New Lenox, Ill.) led the Pirates with three overall wins on the afternoon. Her individual victories came in the 50 Free, an event the Pirates took each of the top three spots in. Moeller touched the wall first in a time of 24.29, while Jerresand finished second in 24.60. Leiya Istambouli (Danbury, Conn.) finished third with a time of 24.92. Moeller also took the win in the 100 Free, with Istambouli taking second.
Moeller's third win of the day came in the final event of the day in the 400 Free Relay. She joined Istambouli, Jerresand and Amanda Zajdzinski (Mesa, Ariz.) to combine for a winning time of 3:34.03.
Zajdzinski's relay victory capped off a strong day for her. The junior claimed victory earlier in the meet in the 200 Free, finishing with a time of 1:53.98. She also nabbed third in the 1000 Free, just behind Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.) who finished in second.
Freshman Julie Stampe (Allerod-Birkerod, Denmark) also notched a pair of victories on Saturday. Stampe won both of the backstroke events, first winning the 100 Back in 57.74. Later, she took the top spot in the 200 Back with a time of 2:05.32. In both events, Madeline Field (Wheaton, Ill.) took third.
Cripps collected three second-place finishes on the afternoon on her Senior Day. The first came in the 200 Medley Relay, as she combined with Stampe, Moeller and Nicole Bastian (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) for a time of 1:47.49. Cripps also took second in the 200 Fly in 2:06.59 and the 100 Fly in 57.36.
Cripps added a third-place relay finish in the 400 Free Relay alongside fellow seniors Bachand and Patnode, as well as junior Josie McCartney (Verona, Wisc.). The quartet combined for a time of 3:41.45.
Laura Stavila (Oakland, Calif.) came away with the victory in the 1-meter dive, tallying a score of 227.02. Nicolette Pawar (Lawrenceville, N.J.) finished the event in third with a total score of 215.77.
The Pirates will have just under a month to gear up for the BIG EAST Championships at Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y. The event will take place Feb. 22-25.
