Kelsey Carr Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week

NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. This marks the second consecutive week in which a Pirate hurler has been named the conference's Pitcher of the Week after Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) received the honor last week.
Carr got the start in game two of the weekend series at defending-regular season BIG EAST champion UConn on Sunday afternoon. She was solid throughout, pitching a complete game and allowing just one run while setting a new career-high with 11 strikeouts. Carr worked herself in and out of trouble, stranding 12 Huskies on the basepaths during her outing. In five of her seven innings, she stranded two runners on, and in two of the innings she allowed the first two batters to reach before escaping the inning unscathed. Carr's 11 strikeouts bested her previous career-best of 10 which was set in her first start of the season against Southern Miss.
Carr and the Pirates return home this week for five games, beginning on Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader against Manhattan at 2 p.m.
