NEW YORK – Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) each were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday.
Allen batted .571 over her four games this week, hitting three doubles and driving home five runs. In the weekend series at DePaul, Allen hit a scorching hot .636 with a pair of three-hit games. On Saturday, Allen went 3-for-4 and set a new career-best with three runs batted in. She followed that up with three more base hits in Sunday's series finale.
Carr was strong on both sides of the diamond, batting .583 with a home run and nine RBI to go with a 2.42 ERA in 8.2 innings pitched. Carr matched the single-game program record for RBI with seven in Sunday's 13-11 win over DePaul. In that game, Carr drilled a grand slam and later hit a three-run double as part of the victory. On the week, the junior collected three multi-hit outings and scored a run in all four games she appeared in. In the circle, Carr got the win on Friday at DePaul, allowing just one run in six innings and striking out seven.
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday as they travel for a doubleheader with Marist.
