Bloomington, Ind. – Seton Hall men's soccer suffered its first loss of the season on Monday night, falling to No. 10 Indiana by a score of 1-0.
How it Happened
The Pirates were able to fend off a fierce Hoosier attack through the early going, with goalkeeper Mats Roorda (Groningen, Netherlands) being called upon to make two saves to keep things scoreless. The Pirates' best chance came off the head of Konstantin Donalies (Bremen, Germany), who headed a cross on the far side of the box but to no avail.
Early in the second half, Indiana threatened with Tommy Mihalic finding free space towards goal. Mihalic fired the shot from point blank range, but Roorda was up to the challenge by deflecting the ball away off his legs. Eventually, the Hoosiers would break through with a goal from Samuel Sarver in the 63rd minute.
Seton Hall looked for an equalizer late in the match, but its best threat came in the final seconds of the match. After a free kick was awarded in the attacking third, James Boote (Southampton, England) swung in a cross that reached the head of Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina). However, his shot was stopped by Indiana goalkeeper JT Harms as time expired.
News & Notes
The Pirates conclude their road swing on Saturday as they travel to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Harvard at 5 p.m.
