The guard collected career highs of 21 points, four rebounds and six assists vs. Xavier on Saturday.
NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Savannah Catalon (Burleston, Texas) was named BIG EAST Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Â
She's the first Seton Hall freshman to earn the prestigious distinction since the 2018-19 season.
Â
Catalon came through in a huge way for the Pirates in a pair of contests last week. The freshman scored six points and dished out two assists at No. 11 Connecticut on Wednesday, but saved her breakout game for the Musketeers on Saturday. With starting point guard Amari Wright mired in foul trouble against Xavier, Catalon stepped in and collected a game-high 21 points to go with four rebounds and six assists, all career-highs. She was also a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line against the Musketeers.
Â
Catalon led the Pirates with 13.5 points and 4.0 assists last week.
Â
DePaul's Anaya Peoples was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Members of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll include Butler's Caroline Strande, Connecticut's Aaliyah Edwards, Creighton's Lauren Jensen, Villanova's Lucy Olsen and Xavier's Mackayla Scarlett.
Â
Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 13 when it makes the short trip to Queens, N.Y. for a BIG EAST contest at local rival St. John's. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live by the BIG EAST Digital Network and available for FloHoops subscribers. John Fanta and Kim Adams will be on the call. Michael Bellifemini and Jackson Shank will carry the broadcast for WSOU FM or wsou.net.
