Media, Pa. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team opened the 2025 spring dual match season with a convincing 6-1 victory on the road over Saint Joseph's Saturday morning at Springton Tennis Club. The Pirates improved upon last year's performance against the Hawks, winning two more singles matches against them than last season.
Four Pirates were straight set singles winners, including Anastasia Sereda at the No. 1 position and freshmen Isabelle Einess and Isabelle May, who both won their first collegiate spring dual singles matches.
"We had a great start to our season today," said head coach James Enzler. "Saint Joseph's is an incredibly scrappy team. They almost got the best of us last year and they fought just as hard this time as well. Our girls fought incredibly hard from start to finish which is all I can ask for. The confidence that Anastasia has gained from last year to this year is incredible to watch. She plays with such a calmer head space this year, so any coaching you need to give her, she applies instantly and seamlessly into her game. I was also happy to see our freshmen Issy and Issy pick up their first spring dual match wins."
In doubles, the Pirates got confident wins from the tandem of Imogen Brooker/Niamh Campbell at No. 2, defeating Charlotte Kordonowy/Brooke Tackett, 6-2, and the tandem of Sereda and Tamsin Hart at No. 3, defeating Addison Melfi/Ana Ocasio, 6-1.
Sereda got singles off to a great start by dispatching Victoria Tracey in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Hart earned Seton Hall's third team point when she defeated Tackett in straight sets in the No. 4 position, 6-1, 6-2.Â
Brooker then clinched team victory for the Pirates when she took down Melfi in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 6-7(4), 1-0(8) at the No. 3 position.
Einess and May defeated Kordonowy and Ocasio, respectively, in straight sets, with May allowing just one game to her opponent.
Seton Hall will resume action next weekend with a Friday evening match at Siena and a Saturday afternoon match at Princeton.
