Loudonville, N.Y. - The Seton Hall tennis team is now 2-0 to start a spring season for the first time since 2019 after defeating Siena, 5-2, Friday night at Tri-City Fitness.
Imogen Brooker and Isabelle May were double winners on the evening for the Pirates, each winning in doubles and then in singles.
"For starters, the tenacity and fight we had in doubles to start the match was incredible," said head coach James Enzler. "Our girls played like they had a chip on their shoulder, and it led to great play and results in the doubles. It was great to see the freshmen pairing of Issy (Isabelle May) and Rachel (Benaoulid) pick up a win at No. 3 doubles followed by more fantastic play from Imi (Imogen Brooker) and Niamh (Campbell). As we shifted to singles, the team started to struggle in keeping that mindset and tenacity, but I give our girls credit though for battling and doing enough to still walk away with the win."
Seton Hall was solid in doubles, taking two of three and could have taken all three against the Saints. The freshmen team of May and Rachel Benaoulid in the No. 3 position dispatched Andrea Vargas and Madeline De Faber-Schumacher by a 6-3 score and then after Siena tied things up, Brooker and Niamh Campbell secured the doubles point with a 7-5 triumph over Reegan Mullaney and Zaara Omar.
Tamsin Hart was the first Pirate to win in singles, taking down Mullaney with ease in the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-1. She was followed by Anastasia Sereda, who topped Vargas at the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-3.
Brooker then clinched Seton Hall's team victory with a win at No. 3, beating Omar, 6-4, 6-1.
May was the other singles winner on the evening, nearly pushed to a third set by De Faber-Schumacher, but ultimately winning in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(4).
Seton Hall will turn around and head to Princeton for a Saturday afternoon tilt against the Tigers at 4 p.m.
