Kitzinger Scores Twice in Pirates' Defeat to Xavier

South Orange, N.J. – Adria Kitzinger (Ridley Park, Pa.) found the back of the net twice, but the Seton Hall women's soccer team was unable to slow down the Xavier attack in a 5-2 defeat on Saturday afternoon at rainy Owen T. Carroll Field.

How it Happened
The Musketeers came out of the gates strong, scoring a pair of goals within the first 10 minutes of the match to grab the early 2-0 advantage. The lead looked destined to grow larger as Samantha Erbach stepped up to take a penalty kick in the 18^th minute, her her try was snuffed out by Avery Strohecker (South Riding, Va.).

The start of the second half saw a flurry of scoring, with the teams combining for five goals within the first eight minutes of the period. Xavier opened the half with a tally from Emma Flick just 40 seconds after halftime to give the visitors a 3-0 edge. Just 30 seconds later, the Pirates would respond as Kitzinger received a pass from Ava Lozada (Richmond, Va.) at the top of the box and buried her third goal of the year.

Just over a minute later, Leyla Sanders (Lithia, Fla.) would be taken down in the penalty area, giving Seton Hall a chance to trim the deficit even more. Kitzinger stepped up and converted on the penalty opportunity for her second goal of the afternoon.

Xavier would quickly respond to grow its lead back to three. Erbach added her second goal of the match in the 51^st minute, followed by a strike from Natalie Bain in the 53^rd minute to salt away the win.
