SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) had 20 kills, and both Emilee Fuller (Louisville, Ky.) and Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) had double-doubles, but DePaul rallied to win the two-hour, 52 minute marathon, 3-2 (25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 22-25, 13-15), on Saturday.

In a season already besieged by injury, the Pirates suffered another key wound. With Seton Hall up 2-0 in the match, but trailing 10-6 in the third set, junior Maddy Loiselle (Tampa, Fla.) suffered an injury and was lost for the game. Although The Hall seemed briefly inspired by the loss of a teammate with an 8-1 run, DePaul regrouped and took sets three and four. In the fifth, the Pirates led 12-6, but ran out of gas late as the Blue Demons rallied for a 15-13 victory.

Reich reached 20 kills for the second time this season to lead the offense. Fuller finished with a team-high 24 assists to go with a career-best 11 digs. Nelson picked up her first career double-double with a team-high 21 digs and 10 assists.

Loiselle was having a tremendous match before having to leave early in the third set. She finished with 11 kills, only one attack error, and a .500 attack percentage.

SET 1:
Trailing 8-5 early in set one, The Hall went on a 7-1 run, and a kill by Loiselle gave it a 12-9 lead and forced a DePaul time out. The Blue Demons rallied, and from there, the set was tied five times until the Pirates took control late. With the score knotted at 18, The Hall scored three straight and never trailed again. Up 21-19, Seton Hall closed out the set with four of the final five points. The Pirates had a .324 attack percentage in a 25-20 set-one win.

SET 2:
Seton Hall scored four in a row, and an ace by Fuller tied set two at 10. DePaul, however, responded with seven of the next nine points to grab a 17-12 advantage. Trailing 21-16, The Hall went on a 6-1 run, and a kill by Loiselle tied the score at 22 and forced a DePaul timeout. A kill by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) staved off a DePaul set point, and a DePaul attack error put Seton Hall in set point. Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) followed with a kill to give The Hall a 26-24, come-from-behind victory.

SET 3:
After losing Loiselle to injury, the inspired Pirates went on an 8-1 run to grab a 14-11 advantage in set three. DePaul bounced back, and three straight Blue Demon points gave them a 22-19 lead and forced a Seton Hall time out. Out of the break, a kill by Reich cut The Hall's deficit to two, but DePaul scored back-to-back points to enter set point, 24-20. After another kill by Reich, the Blue Demons closed out a 25-21 set three win.

SET 4:
Buoyed by their set three victory, DePaul opened the fourth set with six of the first seven points. Down 14-6, the Pirates went on a 9-1 run, spurring the Blue Demons to burn both of their time outs, and tying the score at 15. With the score tied at 20, DePaul scored four of the next five points to enter set point, 24-21. A kill by Reich, staved off one set point, but the Blue Demons ended the set on the next point to tie the match.

SET 5:
Seton Hall never trailed in set five, starting the frame with three of the first four points. Leading 9-6, The Hall scored three straight and a kill by Reich gave it a 12-6 lead and sent the Blue Demons to a time out. Out of the break, DePaul stunned the Pirates by closing out the match with a 9-1 run. The Blue Demons scored seven straight points to take a 13-12 lead. A service error tied the set at 13, but DePaul was able to close out a 15-13 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Reich had a team-high 20 kills with five digs.
Fuller had a team-high 24 assists, a career-high 11 digs and two kills.
Nelson tallied a team-high 21 digs and a career-best 10 assists.
Loiselle had 11 kills, only one attack error, and a .500 attack percentage.
Safian finished with nine kills, only two attack errors and a .292 attack percentage.
Seton Hall recorded a .274 attack percentage for the match, while DePaul attacked at .283.
The Pirates finished with 66 team kills, while the Blue Demons had 72.
The Hall recorded 56 digs, while the Blue Demons had 74.
Seton Hall collected 5.0 blocks and DePaul had 9.0.

NEWS & NOTES:

Seton Hall drops to 6-11 overall and 0-6 in the BIG EAST, while DePaul improves to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The Pirates fall to 21-10 all-time against DePaul and has now dropped the nine of the last 11 matches in the series, including the last four.

The Hall is now 1-2 in five-set matches this season.
Reich has now collected at least 15 kills in a single-match in three straight matches and nine times total this season, a team-high.
Fuller's double-double is her second of the season.
Nelson's double-double is the first of her career.
With 11 kills today, Loiselle surpassed 300 for her career.
With 21 digs today, Nelson surpassed 700 for her career.
Nelson reached 20 digs in a single-match for the third time this season and the seventh time in her career.
The last time Seton Hall lost a match after winning the first two sets was against Middle Tennessee on Sept. 17, 2021.
Seton Hall set season-highs with 66 kills and 62 assists.
