
Reich, Carr Show in Five-Set Heartbreaker at PC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) had a team-high 18 kills, and Rowan Carr (Lakeville, Minn.) collected her first career double-double, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Providence, 3-2 (17-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 12-15), on Saturday.

The teams traded sets from the start, but The Hall couldn't outlast the Friars in set five. The Pirates had a lot of trouble with Providence's front line as the Friars collected 16.0 team blocks on the afternoon.

Sadie Reich had a team-high 18 kills to go with five digs. Senior Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) had a career-high 13 kills, only five attack errors, and four blocks. Freshman Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) notched 13 kills, only five attack errors and five digs.

Carr had the breakout performance of the afternoon with career-highs of 11 kills, 22 digs, three blocks and four service aces.

SET 1:
Seton Hall got off to a rough match start with Providence scoring nine of the first 10 points. A kill by Reich cut The Hall's deficit to 14-6, but the Friars responded with the next three points to grab a commanding 17-6 advantage and force a Pirates' timeout. Down 20-9, The Hall scored three straight, and a kill by Subasili cut its deficit to 20-12. Providence bounced back, however, and closed out a 25-17 first-set victory. The Pirates had a .081 attack percentage in the opening set, while Providence hit at .324.

Seton Hall started much better in set two, and led for much of the early stage of the set. Ahead 11-8, however, Providence scored four in a row to take their first lead of the set, 12-11. Trailing 15-14, the Pirates went on a 7-1 run, and a block by Subasili and Alexis Opland (Woodbury, Minn.) gave them a 21-16 lead and forced a Providence timeout. Out of the break, the Pirates kept up the pressure and a pair of kills by Reich put The Hall in set point and provided the winning point, 25-20, to tie the match at one set apiece.

Similarly to set one, Providence raced out of the gates in set three, scoring seven of the first eight points. Trailing 10-5, The Hall clawed back, and a kill by Emilee Fuller (Louisville, Ky.) cut Seton Hall's deficit to 14-12. A kill by Carr brought the Pirates to within, 16-15, but Providence scored four of the next five points to open up a 20-16 advantage and force a Seton Hall timeout. The Hall staved off two set points, but ultimately fell, 25-22. The Pirates fell in set three despite having 19 kills, only two attack errors and a .487 attack percentage.

The fourth set was the closest of the match and featured nine ties and six lead changes. A kill by Safian gave The Hall a 20-17 lead, but Providence struck back with four of the next five points to tie the set at 21 and force a Pirates' time out. Seton Hall bounced back out of the break with four of the final five points. A kill by Subasili put the Pirates in set point, and an ace by Carr gave them a 25-22 victory.
