SCOUTING MARQUETTE
Seton Hall and Marquette will continue its rivalry on Friday in Walsh Gym. The Golden Eagles have dominated the series with wins in 26 of 31 all-time meetings. Marquette has won 17 matches in a row against the Pirates and swept the 2024 season series. The Hall did, however, take Marquette to five sets in last year's meeting in Walsh Gym.
Â
Marquette is coming off a memorable 25-9 season in 2024, which included a sparkling 16-2 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. The Golden Eagles were swept by Creighton in the BIG EAST Championship match, but earned an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Marquette swept Florida Gulf Coast in the opening round and outlasted No. 17 Utah in five sets in round two before falling to No. 2 Penn State in four sets in the Regional Semifinals.
Â
This season, Marquette was again picked to finish second in the BIG EAST, according to the conference's preseason coaches' poll. Hattie Bray and Natalie Ring were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The Golden Eagles welcomed a talented group of newcomers this season, including six freshman and three transfers. Among the transfers are: Elena Radeff (Santa Clara), Allie Korba (Central Michigan), and Julia Stanev (Eastern Illinois). Collectively, they have recorded 459 digs and 634 kills in their collegiate careers, bringing proven skill to the court.
Â
The Golden Eagles closed out their non-conference schedule with a 6-4, which included impressive victories over Florida and Hawaii. Marquette enters the weekend with a 3-1 record in the BIG EAST with their lone loss coming to defending champion Creighton. The other three victories were sweeps over Providence, Connecticut, and most recently, DePaul. Ring currently leads the conference with 4.60 kills per set, while Isabela Haggard is second with 10.02 assists per set.
