LAST GAME
Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) and Shailyn Pinkney (East Hartford, Conn.) both topped 20 points as the Seton Hall women's basketball team held off Creighton, 88-79, on Monday for its first victory in Omaha in in 10 years.

Seton Hall used a 20-0 first-quarter run to take a large lead and never relinquished it. The Pirates, however, did have to hold on late as a 13-0 Creighton run cut The Hall's lead to just five points with under a minute left. The Pirates shot a season-high 56.1 percent from the floor for the game.

Valenzuela was dominant early, scoring a team-high 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including 4-for-5 from three-point range. She also grabbed six rebounds. Pinkney shattered her career-high with 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting to go with four rebounds.Â

Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had 18 points to go with six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Jordana Codio (Winter Garden, Fla.) added 14 points, including six in the fourth quarter.

Seton Hall and Xavier will meet for the 28th time in history on Sunday. The Pirates have dominated the series, having won 24 of the 27 previous meetings including the last 14 in a row. Last season, the teams played three times with Seton Hall outlasting the Musketeers, 48-40, in the opening round of the BIG EAST Tournament. The Pirates are 11-1 all-time against Xavier in Walsh Gym.

Billi Chambers enters her third year at Xavier after a 7-24 overall record in 2024-25. Â The Musketeers return Meri Kanerva, Petra Oborilova, MacKenzie Givens, and Lucía Martínez López, and welcome Mariyah Noel and four others.

This season, the Musketeers were picked to finish last in the 11-team BIG EAST according to its Preseason Coaches' Poll. Kanerva was named an Honorable Mention for the 2025-26 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.  She is the first Musketeer to pick-up preseason all-conference honors since A'riana Gray in 2020.

Xavier enters Sunday's contest having already surpassed its overall win total from last season. The Musketeers are 8-4 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST Conference play. Xavier had won four in a row before dropping their last outing at Butler on Dec. 19. The Musketeers' lone BIG EAST victory was a 61-47 win over Providence on Dec. 4. Newcomer Mariyah Noel currently leads Xavier and ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with 15.7 points per game to go with 6.7 rebounds per contest.Â
