Graduate student Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) erupted or career-highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds to lift the Seton Hall women's basketball team to a 70-51 victory over Butler in the BIG EAST opener for both teams on Thursday.

Leading by eight over a pesky Butler team that refused to relent for the first three quarters, The Hall opened the fourth with a game-changing 15-2 run to pull away.Â

Valenzuela turned in a career-best performance with 25 points on an efficient 11-for-15 shooting to go with 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.Â

Junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) had 16 points, nine of which came in the fourth quarter. She was 4-for-5 from three-point range.

Seton Hall and NC State will meet for the sixth time in history on Sunday with the Wolfpack owning a 3-2 edge in the prior five meetings. The Hall won, 58-55, in their most recent meeting at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico on Nov. 26, 2015. The Pirates have won two of the last three games in the series. The Hall is 0-2 all-time at NC State.

SCOUTING NC STATE
NC State is fresh off its seventh ACC Regular Season Championship in program history. Â The Wolfpack logged a 28-7 overall record and 16-2 mark in ACC play to share the regular season championship with Notre Dame. Â NC State made its sixth NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in the past seven tournaments and finished with a No. 9 AP final ranking. Â Coach Wes Moore also won ACC Coach of the Year last season.Â

This year, the Wolfpack was picked to finish second the massive 18-team ACC according to the preseason coaches' poll. Zoe Brooks and Khamil Pierre were two of 10 chosen on the Preseason All-ACC Team. Brooks is coming off a stellar sophomore season, in which she averaged 14.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. The Plainfield, N.J. native was a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention choice and ACC First Team selection. Pierre averaged a career-best 20.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. She was a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention selection and a finalist for the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year.

NC State enters Sunday's contest with a 5-4 record having already played four games against teams ranked in the AP Top-20. The Wolfpack entered the year nationally ranked, and currently is the first team receiving votes outside of the Top-25. They currently rank No. 25 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll. NC State is coming off a 103-99 overtime loss at No. 9 Oklahoma on Wednesday. Four players are currently averaging 12.0 points per game or more.
