OKATIE, S.C. – Senior George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) shot his second-straight sub-par round to lead the Seton Hall men's golf team in second round action at the 2025 BIG EAST Championship at Callawassie Island on Sunday.
Fricker was brilliant again using three birdies and 13 pars to fuel a 1-under-par, 71. It's his 27th career sub-par round and his fourth in three years at the BIG EAST Championship. Through 36 holes, he's tied for fourth place with a 3-under-par, 70-71-141. Fricker enters Monday's final round four strokes behind the individual leader, Connecticut's Alex Heard. The top five individuals will be named to the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team.
As a team, the Pirates again played much better on the front nine than the back, but it wasn't as pronounced as it was in round one. The Hall was a collective 5-under today on the par-5, No. 2 hole, and no Pirate shot worse than par on holes four through nine. The back nine again, however, brought Seton Hall's scores up. The Pirates were a collective 1-under on the par-5, No. 15 hole, but each of the other eight holes on the back were net negatives for the team.
The Hall shot one stroke worse on Sunday, finishing with a 5-over-par, 293. They slipped from seventh place to eighth place with 18 holes left to play. For the tournament, the Pirates are 9-over-par with a 292-293-585. Marquette enters Monday's final round with a five-stroke lead over Xavier at 11-under-par.
David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) had one of only four eagles recorded by the field so far in the tournament. The junior hit a 30-foot putt to eagle the par-5, No. 2 hole. He had a strong day, but carded an "8" on the par-5, No. 12 hole, which did him in. For the round, Lally was 3-over-par with a 75. Through 36 holes, he's tied for 16th with a 2-over-par, 71-75-146.
Will Hennessee (Tulsa, Okla.) had a double-bogeyed the first hole of the day, but bounced back nicely, shooting 1-under-par over his final 17 holes. The freshman had a stretch of 11 straight pars from hole No. 7 through hole No. 17. For round two, he was 1-over-par with a 73. After 36 holes, Hennessee is 4-over-par with a 75-73-148.
Senior Patrick Kahanek (San Antonio, Texas) had a nice bounce-back round from yesterday. He shaved four strokes off his first-round score, using two birdies and 12 pars to fuel a 2-over-par, 74, on Sunday. Kahanek was even on the front nine today after shooting 6-over on the first nine holes yesterday. For the tournament, he's 8-over-par with a 78-74-152.
Eli Shah (Newtown Square, Pa.) had a promising start to his round, shooting even-par through 10 holes, but the sophomore struggled late. He had a double-bogey on the par-5, No. 12 hole, the same hole that felled Lally, and bogeys on fourth others. Shah finished with a 6-over-par, 78, on Sunday. For the tournament, he's 10-over-par with a 76-78-154.
