South Orange, N.J. – Seton Hall men's soccer team center back Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina) was selected Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team in the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference announced Tuesday. Resch was one of three players unanimously selected to the All-BIG EAST Team.
Additionally, the Pirates were picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Eastern Division with a total of 30 points awarded. Georgetown took the top spot in the poll for the East Division with 65 points and 10 first place votes, while Akron topped the Midwest Division with the same points tally. Both teams will travel to South Orange to face the Pirates this season, with Georgetown visiting on October 3 and Akron on October 17.
The master in the middle of the Pirates' backline, Resch's 6-foot-6-inch frame has scared defenders out of the box and forced them into difficult shots during his tenure at The Hall. Last year, Resch served as a central part of a Pirates' defense that ranked top 30 nationally in both goals allowed average (1.000) and shutout percentage (.444), earning the then-junior an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection at season's end. Alongside his stifling defensive efforts last season, he logged 1450 minutes, the second-most on the team, along with one goal and 15 shots, the third-most on the team.
This is the first Preseason All-BIG EAST selection for the Pirates since CJ Tibbling and Luca Dahn in 2021, as well as the first Preseason Defensive Player of the Year since Dahn that same season.
