SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – On the opening night of BIG EAST play, Seton Hall men's soccer pushed its way to a 2-0 victory over the Providence Friars at Owen T. Carroll Field on Friday night.
The Pirates jumped out to an early lead after Agustin Resch collected an early goal off a set piece. On the defensive end, however, Seton Hall scrambled to mitigate a Friars offense that outshot them in the first half. Despite that, The Hall held a 1-0 lead at halftime before gaining the offensive advantage in the second half. Another penalty kick goal late in the game from Til Kauschke put the game out of reach for the Friars, securing the Pirates a 2-0 win.
With the win, The Hall moves to 3-1-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the opening minutes of their first BIG EAST match of 2025, it was hard for the Pirates to have a better start. After drawing a yellow card on a Providence defender just outside the box, The Hall had an early chance to get on the board. Senior midfielder Axel Berglund bent a shot through the defensive wall and off the nearside post, but the play finished there, however. Instead, a streaking Agustin Resch deftly headed the ricocheting ball past the prone goalkeeper to hand Seton Hall an early 1-0 lead.

Despite the lead, there was no rest to be had for the Pirates' defense. Despite their record, the Friars proved to be a lot to handle on the defensive end. Only two minutes later, Bruno Rosa, a 2025 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team selection, launched his first shot of the game, forcing an early save from the Pirates' netminder, Matias Molina. The Hall struggled to find an additional chances across the remainder of the first half amid immense offensive pressure from the Friars. Providence would enter the halftime with seven shots, five of which alone belonged to Rosa. Yet, despite the 7-3 shot deficit entering the break, The Hall held onto its 1-0 lead. The BIG guy opens BIG EAST play with a goal‼️#HALLin🔵⚪️⚽️ pic.twitter.com/6F0vw1UiDi

Coming out of the break, an already physical match reached new heights as the two sides traded fouls and scars in the opening stages. Yet, aside from a dangerous Providence chance in the 57th minute, the Pirates controlled the offensive momentum in the middle stages of the half. Amid all the chaos, it took until the 84th minute for the Pirates to finally put the game away. After being tackled in the box while trying to attack a rebounding shot, Til Kauschke stepped up to the penalty spot looking to cement a Pirates victory. The sophomore continued his perfect streak from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way and putting The Hall up 2-0 inside the final ten minutes.Molina and The Hall stand tall! 🚫#HALLin🔵⚪️⚽️ pic.twitter.com/aKMEBFuYbq
