Pirates Fight To Scoreless Draw Against No. 21 Penn

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Despite earning a penalty kick in the final minutes, Seton Hall men's soccer collected a 0-0 draw against the No. 21 Penn Quakers at a crowded Owen T. Carroll Field on Friday night.
In the first half, both teams presented scoring opportunities that the opposing keepers and strong defenses quelled. The Pirates' offense found multiple opportunities in transition during the second half but was unable to capitalize on any of them. In the final minutes, a Seton Hall penalty kick was saved by the Quakers, nullifying The Hall's best offensive chance of the night. Unable to find an answer in the aftermath, the match ended in a draw.
With the tie, The Hall moves to 1-1-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Aside from an early attacking chance from Nico Rubio, both sides struggled to find an offensive chance in the opening ten minutes of the match. Eventually, the Quakers gained an extra bit of momentum and forced the Pirates' defense to tighten up.
The Pirates' strong defense was tested in the 31st minute when Matias Molina saved a ball over the crossbar in the aftermath of a Penn set piece. After that moment, neither side could find another great chance for the remainder of the half, and both teams went into the break scoreless.
In the 80th minute, the Pirates launched another salvo of shots at the Quakers' goalie, but nothing found its way between the posts to break the stalemate. A final chance arose for the Pirates, however, in the 88th minute. After Rubio was fouled in the box, the Pirates were given a penalty kick with a chance to take the lead with mere minutes on the clock. Agustin Resch stepped to the spot to take the penalty, sending it to the nearside post in an effort to test the keeper. Penn's goalie stood on his head, however, barely knocking Resch's ball out for a Pirates corner. Despite pushing in the final moments, The Hall could not find that elusive goal, ending the match in a draw.
