LAST TIME OUT
- The Pirates played host to a No. 21 ranked Penn Quakers squad last Friday in the Pirates' most important non-conference match of the season so far.
- Despite both teams having explosive chances, both goalies and defenses stood on their heads for the vast majority of the game. The Pirates' were handed a penalty kick in the dying minutes that could have given them the lead, but a save from Penn's goalie quashed that chance and ended the match in a 0-0 draw.
- Sacred Heart is 1-2-1 on the season after drawing FDU 1-1 last time out
- This season, the Pioneers were picked to finish sixth in the MAAC with 109 points and one first place vote.
- Sacred Heart enters the match with two highly regarded attacking threats. Graduate student midfielder David Garcia Gallego, who was named MAAC Preseason Co-Player of the Year, already has two goals and one assist this season. Alongside him, senior forward Sam McCann was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
- Between the posts, Luca Marinelli has started three of the Pioneers four games. So far this season, Marinelli has a 1-1-1 record with a 1.33 GAA and seven saves.
- This will be the 3rd matchup all-time against the Sacred Heart, with the first match coming in 2017.
- The Pirates hold a 2-0-0 record all-time against Penn, with the last matchup between the two teams occurring in 2018.
- That match ended in a 2-1 Pirates victory in Fairfield, Connecticut. Â
- After collecting All-BIG EAST Second Team honors last season in his first full season as a starter, senior Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina) was named BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and was unanimously selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
- Last year, in 1450 minutes played, Resch served as a central part of a Pirates' defense that ranked top 30 nationally in both goals allowed average (1.000) and shutout percentage (.444), earning the then-junior an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection at season's end.
- This was the first Preseason All-BIG EAST selection for the Pirates since CJ Tibbling and Luca Dahn in 2021, as well as the first Preseason Defensive Player of the Year since Dahn that same season.
