Graduate student Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) scored a career-high 26 points and the Seton Hall women's basketball team rallied from a 15-point deficit to defeat Marquette, 64-61, in historic Walsh Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The Hall trailed 20-5 to start the game, but used a 17-0 second-quarter run to claw back into the contest. The Pirates shot just 31.3 percent from the field, but forced 19 Marquette turnovers and pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.

Valenzuela was 10-for-21 from the field, including 4-for-9 from three-point range to go with seven rebounds and three blocks in a career-best performance. Ten of her game-high 26 points came in the fourth quarter. Junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) finished with 12 points, including eight points in the fourth quarter. She was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line and drew 10 fouls.

DePaul returns veteran Kate Clarke and their number three scorer in Meg Newman from a year ago. Â The Blue Demons added seven transfers to their roster. Â DePaul fell to Xavier in the First Round of the BIG EAST Tournament, finishing the year 13-19 overall and 8-10 in conference play. Â Jill M. Pizzotti was named head coach of the Blue Demons in April of 2025 after serving on staff for 14 seasons, including 11 as associate head coach.

This season, the Blue Demons were picked to finish eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST according to its Preseason Coaches' Poll. Clarke was named an Honorable Mention for the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

DePaul has struggled early this season, going just 3-8 during the non-conference portion of its schedule with victories over Valparaiso, Grambling State and UMass Lowell. The Blue Demons fell to Seton Hall's common opponent, Princeton, by 30 points. DePaul enters Saturday's game with a 4-15 overall record and a 1-7 mark in BIG EAST play. Their lone victory came on Jan. 10 against Georgetown. Most recently, the Blue Demons fell at Xavier, 71-61, on Tuesday. Kate Novik leads the team with 11.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.Â
