NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Zahara Bishop (Minneapolis, Minn.) was named BIG EAST Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week and teammate Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) earned Weekly Honor Roll distinction on Monday.
Â
It's the fourth time this season that Catalon has received the weekly conference recognition.
Â
Bishop had arguably her best week as a collegian in a pair of Seton Hall victories last week. On Wednesday, the freshman had seven points, seven rebounds and three assists in a Pirates' victory over Marquette. On Saturday, Bishop erupted for a career-high 21 points on an efficient 8-for-10 shooting from the floor, which included 3-for-4 shooting from three-point range.
Â
Catalon again proved just how valuable she is to the Pirates last week. The junior led Seton Hall with 18.0 points per game and was a perfect 20-for-20 from the free-throw line. In Wednesday's victory over Marquette, Catalon had 12 points, three rebounds, two steals, was 10-for-10 from the line and drew 10 Golden Eagles fouls. On Sunday, she had a team-high 24 points on the strength of 4-for-9 shooting from three-point range and was again 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.Â
Â
Connecticut's Sarah Strong was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Those joining Catalon on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll include: Georgetown's Destiny Agubatam, Providence's Sabou Gueye, St. John's Sa'Mya Wyatt and Xavier's Mariyah Noel.
Â
Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 20 when it hosts BIG EAST rival Providence in historic Walsh Gymnasium. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed live by ESPN+.
