LAST GAME
Junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell at No. 1 Connecticut, 84-48, at PeoplesBank Arena on Saturday.

Seton Hall showed fight in the first quarter, but wore down as Connecticut's full-court press took its toll. Without point guard Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.), who missed the game and is day-to-day, the Pirates committed 20 turnovers in the first half while navigating the Huskies' pressure.

Senior Jordana Codio (Winter Garden, Fla.) finished with a team-high 12 points. Catalon had 11 points and team-highs of seven rebounds and four steals. Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) added eight points and four rebounds.

AGAINST PROVIDENCE
Seton Hall and Providence will resume their long rivalry on Thursday. The Pirates own a 48-31 all-time series lead and have dominated the matchup in recent years. The Hall has won three in a row against the Friars and 11 of the last 12 games. Last year, Seton Hall swept the home-and-home series, including a 59-38 victory at Providence on Feb. 16. It's been seven years since the Friars defeated Seton Hall in Alumni Hall.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence is coming off a 13-19 overall record last year, which included a 6-12 mark in BIG EAST play. It has had to replace leading scorers Grace Efosa and Olivia Olsen.  Orlagh Gormley returned from injury after averaging 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in 11 games in 2024-25.  The Friars welcomed three transfers, including Fairleigh Dickinson's Teneisia Brown, who started all 33 games for the Knights.

This season, the Friars were picked to finish 10th in the 11-team BIG EAST according to its Preseason Coaches' Poll.Â

The Friars went 7-4 in the non-conference portion of their schedule, which included a victory over high-major opponent Boston College and a loss at No. 3 South Carolina. So far, Providence is 2-3 in BIG EAST Conference play with a victory over Georgetown in overtime on Dec. 21, and most recently, a win at DePaul on Sunday. Sabou Gueye currently leads the team with 14.1 points per game, while Brown is averaging 9.9 points and a team-best 6.6 rebounds per contest. Providence enters Thursday's contest ranked last with 59.4 points per game on offense, but second in scoring defense, allowing only 59.7 point per game.
