NEW YORK, N.Y. – Off the back of a dominant 2-0 week, freshman forward Tim Valentine (Rockaway, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Additionally, graduate student defender Charlie Herley (Maplewood, N.J.) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Valentine continued his standout freshman campaign with a career-best two-goal, two-assist week. In the match against Liberty, Valentine came off the bench to net an insurance goal in the Pirates' 2-0 win over the Flames. Valentine followed that match by getting the start and shining against St. John's in a crucial BIG EAST match. He assisted on the Pirates' first two goals before scoring the third in The Hall's 3-0 win over the Red Storm.
Herley notches his first BIG EAST honor of the season after a stellar week of two-way play. The graduate student shut down opposing wings on a defense that held its opposition scoreless with only ten combined shots registered this week. Offensively, Herley had his hands all over The Hall's offensive success. He logged the crucial assist on the game-winning goal against Liberty, before later logging the opening goal and an assist in the win over St. John's.
Valentine is the Pirates' first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honoree this season.
