Just over a minute into the game the Pirates generated their first offensive opportunity of the day when junior midfielder Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) had a shot blocked. Freshman goalkeeper Gina Maiorana (Street, Md.) made a save on Daphne Corboz attempt 10 minutes later, but the Hoyas' offense tallied the first score of the game in the 15th minute as Kaitlin Brenn found Colleen Dinn.
Georgetown scored four goals in the first half, with Corboz registering a pair of scores and Ashley Shaffer accounting for the fourth.
The Pirates' strongest scoring chances of the half came in the final 10 minutes of the opening period, with junior Amie Ruhe (Monrovia, Md.), sophomore Angie Shehaj (East Brunswick, N.J.) and freshman Alexis Urbanski (Aberdeen, N.J.) each picking up a shot attempt, but none of them found the net.
Corboz finished the game with a hat trick and an assist to lead Georgetown, while Dinn and Shaffer finished with two goals apiece.
Maiorana stopped a career-high five shots as the Hoyas fired 13 balls on net, while Georgetown keeper Christina Mangels subbed in during the second half to make one stop on a Meghan Hayes (Fredon, N.J.) attempt.
With the win Georgetown improved to 7-1-1 overall and managed to take a slight edge in the all-time series with Seton Hall, as the Hoyas now lead 9-8-2.
Seton Hall (5-4, 0-1) will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 16, when it hosts Villanova University at Owen T. Carroll Field at 1 p.m.
Sunday afternoon's contest will be the Pirates' 2012 "Lace Up For Pediatric Cancer" game, as they partner with the Go 4 the Goal Foundation to help raise awareness for the foundation.
Seton Hall will wear gold laces during the game and fans will be able to purchase a pair of gold laces of their own for $5, with all proceeds benefitting Go 4 the Goal. This is the second season that the Seton Hall Department of Athletics has joined with Go 4 the Goal, a cause that was first taken up by the women's soccer team; last year the Pirates helped raise $1,600 from initiatives organized by several SHU teams.
