Seton Hall Falls at Marquette in Four Sets

MILWAUKEE, WIS. - Junior Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a career-high 18 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team lost in four sets to Marquette, 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-27, 14-25), on Friday.
After trailing for most of the first set, the Pirates made their move late. With Marquette leading 18-15, Seton Hall scored four of the next five points to knot the set at 19. The set was tied three more times before a Marquette service error put the Pirates in set point, 25-24, and an ensuing block by Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) and Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) won the set for The Hall.
The Pirates again trailed for most of set two, but this time, Marquette was able to hold on for a victory. Seton Hall cut the Golden Eagles' lead to 20-18, but Marquette scored five of the final six points of the set to win, 25-19, and tie the match at one set apiece.
The Golden Eagles held the Pirates to just a .042 attack percentage in set two, as opposed to a .317 in a set one victory.
Turning Point:
Set three was a back-and-forth affair. With the score tied at 17, Seton Hall scored three straight to take a 20-17 lead and prompt a Marquette timeout. Soon after, the Golden Eagles scored three straight points to tie the set at 23. After staving off two set points, Marquette scored the final three points of the set to win, 27-25, and take a 2-1 match lead.
The Golden Eagles dominated set four, jumping out to an 11-3 advantage, before eventually winning, 25-14, to win the match in four sets.
Notes & Numbers:
- Junior Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) finished with a match-high 24 digs. She registered at least 20 digs for the 10th time this season and the 25th time of her career.
- With 45 assists, freshman Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) cracked Seton Hall's top-10 in career assists, passing former Pirate Beth Lawlor with 770.
- Coffey recorded at least 40 assists for the ninth time this season.
- With 26 attacks, Hansen moved past former teammate Shelbey Manthorpe for ninth place on Seton Hall's career attacks list with 2,444.
- With one blocks Hansen tied former Pirate Silvia Watson for third place on Seton Hall's career blocks list with 463. (463)
- Schroeder tallied at least 15 kills for the fourth time this season and the sixth time in her career.
- Seton Hall falls to 1-3 in four-set matches.
- Seton Hall falls to 5-11 all-time against Marquette.

Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, October 24 when it travels to Chicago for a meeting with DePaul. Match time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.
