PRINCESS ANNE, MD. - Continuing what has been a stellar opening to her senior season, Amanda Quaglia (Reading, Pa.) turned in a 20th-place finish at Saturday's 5K Cappy Anderson Invitational to lead a fourth-place showing for the Seton Hall women's cross country team.
Quaglia has now led The Hall in all three meets to begin the 2015 campaign and has remained at the forefront of a scoring contingent that has seen the same five Pirates contribute to the team score each time. The Reading product clocked in at 19:36.30 to record her third top-20 finish of the fall.
As she did in the first two meets of her collegiate career, freshman Kiley Britten (Crystal Lake, Ill.) followed Quaglia to the line for the Pirates, registering her third second-place team finish with a 19:52.23 mark that ranked 25th out of 81 female competitors. The newcomer has come on and contributed in a big way early on and is now the owner of three top-25 finishes this season.
Sophomore Emily Johnson (Wildwood Crest, N.J.) continued her early season surge with a third-place team finish on the strength of a final 5K time of 20:44.75. Johnson climbed into the Seton Hall top-three for the first time this year while junior Desyre Blackburn (Aloha, Ore.) finished just two spots behind in 37th with a time of 21:36.99 to once again factor into the team scoring.
Completing the scoring group was sophomore Bailey Seach (Winston Salem, N.C.) whose 21:59.73 mark was just outside the top-40 overall (41st). In 12 career meets, Seach has now finished among the top-five Pirates on 10 occasions.
The Hall wrapped up the day with 98 points; falling just seven points shy of collecting a top-three finish at the nine-team meet. Navy captured the team title with 15 points.
Seton Hall will look to use the off week that lies ahead to help gear up for the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, October 9. Start-time is listed as 2:00 p.m. from Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
