Late Surge Halts Hall's Comeback vs. Duquesne
9/4/2015 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - A second half goal from Frankie Maier (Oradell, N.J.) helped the Seton Hall women's soccer team erase a one-goal deficit but the visiting Duquesne Dukes scored twice in the final 15 minutes to pull out a 3-1 result on Friday night.
The Hall (0-4-1) fell behind early in its home opener when a goal mouth scramble led to a Katie O'Connor goal for Duquesne just sixth minutes into the action but a long-range rocket from Maier pulled the hosts level with less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
During a spell of possession for The Hall, Maier found herself in space at the center of the park and ate up space approaching the area before unleashing a long range try that found its way into the net for her first goal of the year.
Duquesne (3-1-0) would respond in the form of Amy Vinopal however as the senior tallied two goals in a span of three minutes to provide the final difference.
Turning Point
In the 79th minute, Amy Vinopal snuck in behind the Seton Hall back line and put the Dukes back in front for good just seven minutes after Maier equalized for The Hall
