Spindler Saves PK, but Pirates Fall to Providence

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Julian Spindler (Weiersbach, Germany) kept the Seton Hall men's soccer team in the game with a clutch second half penalty kick save, but the Pirates ultimately fell to Providence, 1-0, on Saturday.

Turning Point:
The game's lone goal was scored less than nine minutes into the contest. Seton Hall turned the ball over at the top of their own box and Providence's Julian Gressel found Brendan Constantine with a crossing pass. Constantine beat Spindler to the left side of the goal to give the Friars an early lead.

Seton Hall picked up the pace in the second half, and tied the Friars in shots, 7-7. Spindler made a key save, diving to his left on a penalty kick in the 86th minute to keep the Pirates within a single goal, but couldn't find the equalizer.

Goals:
8th – Providence – Brendan Constantine (1) – off a turnover, took a crossing pass from Julian Gressel and scored to the left of the keeper

Inside the Numbers:
- Providence out-shot the Pirates in the first half, 10-4, but the teams were tied at seven shots apiece in the second half
- The Friars had six corner kicks to the Pirates four
- Seton Hall committed nine fouls, compared to the Friars' five
- Sophomore Brandon Sabinsky (Belle Mead, N.J.) led the Pirates with four shots
- Sabinsky and Jordan Kinoshi (Welwyn Garden City, England) each had a shot on goal for Seton Hall
- Spindler made five saves in goal
- Seven different Pirates attempted at least one shot
- It's the fourth time Seton Hall has dropped a match by a 1-0 score this season
- Five of Seton Hall's nine losses have come by only one goal
- The Pirates fall to 2-3-1 at Owen T. Carroll Field this season
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, October 22 when they travel to Indianapolis, Ind. for a 7:00 p.m. match at Butler.
