Prata Notches First Goal In Setback To Princeton
10/5/2016 10:10:00 PM | Men's Soccer
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Mario Prata (Dracut, Mass.) scored his first career goal for the Seton Hall men's soccer team (3-7-1) in a 3-1 setback to Princeton (5-3-1) on Wednesday night at Owen T. Carroll Field. The contest marked the finale of the The Hall's non-conference slate.
Prata struck in only the third minute to give the Pirates an early advantage, with the Pirates holding that 1-0 lead into halftime. The advantage would not last long into the second half, with PU scoring its first of three second half goals on a Greg Seifert penalty kick in the 48th minute. The Tigers went ahead with another goal from Seifert off a direct free kick in the 56th minute before icing the contest with a Will Lentz strike in the 85th.
Turning Point
After Princeton went up 2-1 with a free kick in the 56th minute, The Hall began to press forward and generated two huge chances midway through the second half. In the 67th minute Francisco Alderete (Salta, Argentina) weaved his way through a series of defenders to gain space and ripped a shot from point-blank range that just nicked the left post.
Less than four minutes later, Alderete slipped a through-ball in to Jordan Kinoshi (Welwyn Garden City, England) for a shot deep in the box that was blocked away by the Princeton back line. The two denied chances allowed PU to maintain its one-goal lead before doubling it in the final five minutes.
