Pirates Close Foreign Tour With Dramatic Victory

OTTAWA, Ontario -Â The Seton Hall women's basketball team closed its foreign tour to Canada on a high note on Saturday evening, defeating Ottawa power Carleton University by a score of 67-64. With the win, the Pirates conclude their eight-day trip with back-to-back victories and secured wins in three of five exhibition contests.Â
Down by 10 heading into the fourth quarter, the Pirates stormed back to pull within in a single possession in the final minute. Down 64-62 with 12.9 seconds to play, freshman Deja Winters (Richmond Heights, Ohio) took a feed from classmate Kaela Hilaire (Floral Park, N.Y.) in the corner and buried a 3-point jumper to give The Hall a one-point lead. The Pirates came up with a defensive stand on the next possesion, as Martha Kuderer (Eden Prairie, Minn.) grabbed a clutch rebound before sinking a pair of game-icing free throws on the other end. JaQuan Jackson (Killeen, Texas) led the Pirates with 16 points in the victory while LaTecia Smith (Gardenia, Calif.) scored 10 along with a team-high seven rebounds. Hilaire added nine points to go with five assists and fellow freshman Jayla Jones-Pack (Amityville, N.Y.) blocked five shots and snagged three stals.Â
With their foreign tour in the books, the Pirates will turn their attention to the 2016-17 regular season. Action kicks off at Walsh Gym against Savannah State on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. Season tickets are available HERE.Â
