SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Despite a 9-5 edge in shots, the Seton Hall men's soccer team (5-9-1. 2-5-0 BIG EAST) dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 21 Butler (10-4-1, 6-1-0 BIG EAST) on Wednesday night at Owen T. Carroll Field. The Pirates now have two matches remaining in the regular season, one home and one away.
The Pirates controlled possession through large portions of the match, but could not solve Butler keeper Eric Dick who turned in a five-save shutout. Of BU's five shots, four were on goal and two found the back of the net as the league-leading Bulldogs were able to make the most of their opportunities.
Turning Point
After a first half that was dominated by The Hall, Butler notched the match's first goal via a penalty kick in the 35th minute. A nice link-up play freed up Alex Lehtinen in the box, who made a move towards goal but was tripped up by a Pirate defender. Lewis Suddick stepped up for the penalty and converted past a diving Peyton Elder (Cary, N.C.) into the right side of the net to put BU up at the break. The Bulldogs would go on to double their lead less than five minutes into the second period.
Goals
35th – BU – Lewis Suddick (5) penalty kick
50th – BU – Isaac Galliford (2) off feed from Brandon Guhl and Bennett Kim, finished from top right side of box into top left corner
Inside The Numbers
The Pirates are back in action on Saturday night, visiting Xavier for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
