SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Head coach Anthony Bozzella and the Seton Hall women's basketball team have announced the addition of Iona College transfer Alexis Lewis, a three-time All-Metro Athletic Conference selection. Lewis has signed her grant-in-aid agreement and will enroll at The Hall for the upcoming fall semester. She will have one year of eligibility remaining after completing a year-in-residence in 2018-19.
"We are extremely excited to add a player of Alexis Lewis' caliber to our program," Bozzella said. "Lexi is a gifted scorer with deep shooting range as well as an explosive rebounder and defender. We have no doubts that her skill-set will translate to great success in the BIG EAST as she concludes what has already been a tremendous career."
A 5-10 guard from Pittston, Pa., Lewis spent the last three seasons starring for an Iona squad that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2016. In 96 games for the Gaels, Lewis averaged 12.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. She was the MAAC Co-Sixth Player of the Year as a freshman in 2015-16, also earning an All-Rookie team nod after averaged 8.8 points per game on an NCAA Tournament team.
Lewis' best year at Iona came in her sophomore campaign in 2016-17, a season that saw her average 15.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game while shooting nearly 38 percent from 3-point range. For her efforts she was named First Team All-MAAC and Third Team All-Met. As a junior last season she was Iona's top scorer and rebounder, pouring in 14.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game to earn Third Team All-MAAC laurels.
The addition of Lewis will look to continue a terrific trend of success for transfers at The Hall under Bozzella. Over the last five seasons The Hall has seen four players earn All-BIG EAST honors after transferring into the program, including All-American Daisha Simmons and WNBA draft pick Shakena Richardson.
