
Pirates Victorious at Cappy Anderson Invitational

Princess Anne, Md. – The Seton Hall men's and women's cross country teams had a monster day at the Cappy Anderson Invitational hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, sweeping both the team and individual titles. Freshman Emma Newgarden (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior Jesse Southard (Gorham, Maine) won their respective individual races.
Newgarden ran a season-best 5K of 18:43.50 and finished atop the field of 64 runners, while Southard ran a 26:36.30 to beat out 61 other competitors through the 8K course.
Emily and Olivia Hernandez (East Brunswick, N.J.) continued to shine for the women's squad, finishing in third and fourth with respective times of 19:10.60 and 19:13.30. Kassi Yocco (Bethlehem, Pa.) was the fourth Pirate to finish in the top-5, collecting fifth after completing the race in 19:17.60.
For the men, senior Jarod Moser (Duncanville, Texas) was the individual runner-up with a time of 27:01.80. Freshman Justin Allone (Holtsville, N.Y.) finished seventh overall, while junior Ryan McNeilly (East Rutherford, N.J.) was eighth, and freshman Cole Kretlow (Oakland, Calif.) finished ninth.
Looking ahead, the Pirates will compete at the NJIT Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6 in Newark.
