
Rachwal, Cvelbar Shine in Setback to Wake Forest

FAIRFAX, VA. – Junior Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) had seven kills and seven blocks, while senior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) tallied her third double-double of the tournament, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Wake Forest, 3-1 (22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-25), on Saturday.

Rachwal was equally impressive on offense and defense, totaling seven kills with no attack errors, and a .412 attack percentage. On defense, she tallied a career-high seven blocks to go with three digs. Cvelbar registered a team-best 33 assists to go with a season-high 17 digs. She also had three blocks.

Senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had a team-high nine kills, to go with only two attack errors. Madison Salkowski (Cold Spring, Ky.) had a solid offensive game as well with six kills and only one attack error.

SET 1:
Seton Hall never led in the first set. The Pirates fell behind big early as the Demon Deacons scored 11 of the first 15 points, but The Hall didn't fold, and methodically fought back to keep the set close. Trailing 21-17, Seton Hall scored four of the next five points to close the gap to just one point, 22-21. Wake Forest however, scored three of the next four points to win the set, 25-22.

The Pirates charged out of the gates in the second set to grab a commanding 11-3 lead early on. Trailing 15-9, Wake Forest went on an 8-1 run to take a 17-16 advantage. The Pirates tied the score at 17, but the Demon Deacons took off again, closing the set with an 8-2 run to take a 2-0 match lead.

SET 3:
Seton Hall didn't give in and roared back with renewed vigor in set three. Trailing 6-2 early, the Pirates went on a 7-2 run to jump ahead, 9-8. Trailing 15-14, The Hall scored four of the next five points, and a kill by Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) gave it an 18-16 lead. Leading 22-20, Seton Hall scored the last three points of the frame to close out a 25-20 victory.

The Hall started out strong in set four, grabbing a 7-2 lead, but Wake Forest answered with a 6-1 run to tie the set at eight. Trailing 13-10, the Demon Deacons ended the match with a 15-2 burst.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday when it begins the BIG EAST Conference portion of its schedule on the road at Marquette in Milwaukee. Match time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.
