
Pirates Win Third Consecutive Meet, Finish First at NJIT

Newark, N.J. – For the third meet in a row, the Seton Hall women's cross country team took first, this time at the 2021 Highlander XC Classic hosted by NJIT on Saturday. The Pirates totaled just 40 points as they went on to win the meet held at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J.
For the fourth time in four meets this season, Nancy Habib (Clifton, N.J.) led the Pirates. Taking second overall on the individual side, Habib finished the 5k course in a time of 18:05.50. Also picking up top-10 finishes for The Hall was the freshman duo of Julia Smith (Pittsgrove, N.J.) and Taj Lanier (Lincoln University, Pa.). Smith came in fifth with a time of 19:34.30 while Lanier crossed the finish line just behind her teammate with a time of 18:36.04 for the sixth-place finish.
Taking spots in the top-20 for Seton Hall were Lauren Ginefra (Budd Lake, N.J.) in 12th in a time of 19:05.26, Abigail Hughes (Staten Island, N.Y.) in 15th with a time of 19:16.40, and Arianna Braccio (Nashua, N.H.) taking 16th in 19:23.60. Also competing for The Hall was Emily Hernandez (East Brunswick, N.J.), Emily Hernandez (East Brunswick, N.J.), Amanda Houston (Randolph, N.J.), Kate Cochran (Sewell, N.J.), Danielle Becker (Manalapan, N.J.), Rica Ongsiako (Matawan, N.J.), Brianna Peiffer (Missouri City, Texas) and Gaby Vega (Easton, Pa.).
The Pirates will look to build on their success next Friday when they run in the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
