PROVIDENCE - Despite 12 saves by junior goalkeeper Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.), Providence proved to be too much as the Friars defeated the Pirates, 2-0, on Thursday evening.
Seton Hall finishes the season with six victories, its most in a single season since winning seven games back in 2012.
Gordon made eight stops between the pipes in the first half but was unable to save the Friars' penalty shot with just under five minutes to play in the half that gave them a 1-0 lead.
The Pirates played with better pace offensively in the second half as they pieced together a scoring opportunity in the 47th minute. Senior Laura Hooper (Watford, England) took advatnage of a mistake by Providence and strung a pass through a defender to junior Naomi Welch (Livingston, Scotland) who got her shot past the keeper but it hit off the cross bar and went out of bounds.
