
Three Pirates Collect Nine Kills in Setback at Villanova

Frusha, Lucas and Walsh lead the way offensively in a four-set loss at Villanova.
VILLANOVA, PA. – Three Pirates had a team-best nine kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Villanova in four sets, 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25), on Friday.

Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas), Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) and Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) all had nine kills, combining for 27 kills and only six attack errors. Frusha was the most efficient of the group, collecting nine kills, only one attack error and a team-best .533 attack percentage.

Sophomore Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) came the closest to a double-double, registering 22 assists and seven digs. Junior Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio) had a team-best 14 digs.

SET 1:
Trailing 19-15, The Hall scored five of the next six points to tie the score at 20. Villanova regrouped, however, and scored five of the next seven points to seal a 25-22 first-set victory. The opening set featured seven ties and three lead changes and was the closest of the match. Villanova had a .286 attack percentage, compared to .280 for Seton Hall.

SET 2:
Seton Hall led the second set wire-to-wire, starting the set with a 12-2 run. Villanova responded with a 9-2 run, but the Pirates rebounded with six of the next seven points to claim a commanding 20-12 advantage. Down 21-13, the Wildcats went 6-2 run to cut their deficit to 23-19. A kill by Lucas put The Hall in set point, 24-19, and three points later, a Villanova service error gave the Pirates a 25-21 set-two victory.

A kill by Lucas tied the score at seven in set three, but Villanova scored five of the next six points to take a 12-8 lead. The Wildcats never trailed again. A kill by Frusha cut The Hall's deficit to 15-12, but Villanova responded with five straight points to take a 20-12 advantage. Down 24-17, Seton Hall staved off three straight set points to cut their deficit to four and force a Wildcat timeout. Out of the break, though, Villanova got the point they needed to win, 25-20.

Trailing 5-3, Villanova went on a 6-2 run to take a 9-7 lead. The Hall bounced back with four straight and a kill by Walsh put it back on top, 11-9. The Wildcats again responded with a 6-1 run to jump back ahead, 15-12. Down 23-19, the Pirates scored four straight points to tie the set at 23. Villanova again recovered, however, and scored the last two points, consecutively, to win the set, 25-23.

Seton Hall returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Washington, D.C. for a contest against Georgetown. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
