
Pirates Tame Hoyas with Balanced Effort, 3-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tsvetelina Ilieva (Sofia, Bulgaria), Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) and Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) combined for 32 kills and the Seton Hall women's volleyball team defeated Georgetown, 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22), on Saturday.

Ilieva had 11 kills to go with seven digs, two service aces and a season-high five blocks. Walsh tallied 11 kills, only three attack errors, three digs and two blocks. Turner had 10 kills and two blocks.

Sophomore Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) recorded a double-double with 21 assists and 11 digs, while junior libero Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio) notched a season-high 28 digs.

SET 1:
Trailing 7-4, Seton Hall went on a 10-2 run, and a kill by Turner put it on top, 14-9. The teams then traded three-point spurts, Georgetown scored three in a row, then Seton Hall, then the Hoyas again, which cut the Pirate lead to 18-16. Ahead 22-20, back-to-back kills by Walsh and Ilieva put The Hall in set point, 24-20. Three points later, the Pirates claimed the opening set on a Georgetown service error.

SET 2:
Seton Hall again fell behind early in set two, but quickly bounced back. Down 3-1 early, The Hall scored five straight points, and a kill by Ilieva put it on top, 6-3. A kill by Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) gave the Pirates an 18-15 lead, but Georgetown responded with three straight to tie the score at 18 and force a Seton Hall timeout. Out of the break, The Hall scored three straight, capped by a block by Ilieva and Rachwal. Clinging to a 22-21 lead, back-to-back kills by Ilieva and Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) put The Hall in set point, 24-21. The Hoyas staved off two set points, but out of a timeout, Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas) slammed home the set-winning kill.

Seton Hall scored the first two points of the third set, but then Georgetown scored nine straight points and the Pirates played from behind for the rest of the set. Down 10-3, the Pirates scored seven of the next 10 points, and a kill by Walsh cut their deficit to 13-10. However, the Hoyas scored the next four points to extend their lead back to seven points. Down 20-13, the Pirates again mounted a charge with a 5-0 run, and a block by Ilieva and Frusha cut their deficit to 20-18. But The Hall didn't get closer, and fell, 25-20.

The fourth set was the closest of the match, featuring nine ties and five lead changes. With the score tied at 13, the Pirates went on a 7-1 run to take a commanding 20-14 lead. Georgetown responded with five straight points to cut their deficit to one, 20-19, but the Pirates took off again, scoring four of the next five points to enter set point. After the Hoyas staved off two match points, a kill by Turner won the match for The Hall.

Seton Hall will return to action next weekend with a pair of BIG EAST Conference matches at newly-renovated Walsh Gymnasium. The Pirates will host Marquette on Friday, Nov. 5 and DePaul on Saturday, Nov. 6. Both contests will start at 6:00 p.m. ET and will be available to FloSports subscribers.
