Â
The Pirates snap a six-match losing streak to Butler and pick up their second BIG EAST victory of the season in impressive fashion on the road.
Â
Lucas was brilliant offensively, collecting a team-high 13 kills to go with only three attack errors and three digs. Jakubowski collected her fourth straight double-double with a team-best 16 assists, 15 digs and four kills.
Â
SET 1:
With the score tied at four early in the opening set, the Pirates went on a 9-3 run, and a kill by Lucas put them on top, 13-7. Leading 14-9, The Hall scored five of the next six points to grab a commanding 19-10 lead. With the Pirates up, 23-15, Madeline Matheny (Wilmington, Del.) connected on kills in back-to-back rallies to send The Hall to a convincing 25-15 first-set victory. The Pirates had a .367 attack percentage in the opening set and committed just one attack error.
Â
SET 2:
Seton Hall continued its offensive assault to open the second set. With the score tied at two, the Pirates went on a 6-1 run, and a kill by Jakubowski gave them an early 8-3 lead. After Butler scored to make it 8-4, the Pirates took off again with five more unanswered points, and a kill by Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) gave The Hall a commanding 15-5 advantage. Trailing 22-13, Butler scored seven straight points to cut The Hall's lead to 22-20, and in the process, burn both Pirate timeouts. The Hall bounced back, however, and was able to stave off the furious Bulldog rally, 25-21.
Â
SET 3:
The third set was the closest of the match, but the result was ultimately the same. Trailing 11-6, the Pirates went on a 7-2 run, fueled by a pair of Lucas kills, to tie the score at 13. From there, the set was tied five more times until the Pirates took control late. With the score tied at 19, the Pirates scored four of the next five points, and a block by Lucas and Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas), put them in front, 23-20. The Bulldogs rallied, however, staved off three match points and tied the set at 24. With the score knotted up, a Butler service error again put The Hall in match point, and a Bulldogs' attack error ended the set in the Pirates' favor, 26-24.
